Interesting facts about weight loss

The issue of weight loss surrounds everyone's life at some point in time. Unless you were born as one of those lucky people who naturally keeps your weight in proportion to your size, you have probably struggled through a few times where you were "dieting" or "watching what you ate." If you, personally, have never had problems with your weight, you will have at least known someone who is very overweight.

In our society, weight defines who you are and the doors of opportunity that will be either opened to you, or slammed shut. This is, of course, not "right," but it is just how it is. If you are one of the many unlucky people who are moderately overweight to obese, you will know that this is a true statement. In our world, beautiful equals THIN or SLIM. How many dating sites have you visited that showed characteristics for a date with someone as being "fit" or "weight proportionate to size, or "slim figure?" Have you ever lost out on a job opportunity that you felt was due to your size? It is a fact of life that if someone is seriously overweight, he or she is treated much differently than someone who is a "normal" size.

There is another, far more important reason, for being concerned about maintaining a healthy weight. Being tremendously overweight can lead to any number of serious health issues. You are more prone to high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease, to name a few. The number of weight related deaths that occur each year is phenomenal.

However, even knowing all of this, losing that extra weight is rarely easy. Many weight loss aids are on the market today, each one promising to be the "miracle" for which you have been searching. For the most part, these are all quite expensive but people are willing to pay anything for a "quick and easy fix." The pills and shakes can actually seem to work, but that weight usually returns once you have stopped using them. Some of the programs that package your food for you can help, especially when you are taught how to maintain your weight once you have completed their program. These, too, are quite expensive. Most doctors will recommend that you use diet combined with exercise. That seems to be what is most successful in the long term. However, you must be motivated in order to strictly adhere to this plan. In most cases, you need to be STRONGLY motivated to stay dedicated. Losing weight by diet and exercise is not a simple plan. It takes hard work and dedication. In most cases, having a partner to do this with you can make a big difference in the success or failure of your plan. There are also many exercise dvds on the market to try to make things a little more fun.

Sadly, we live in a world where the need to eat healthy or "different" in order to maintain weight or due to certain types of diseases is made to be very expensive. It IS possible to lose weight on a budget, but this takes us back to the diet and exercise program. You can use your food money to buy fresh vegetables and fruit, which can become the staples to your diet. If you happen to be a salad lover, your weight loss will be much easier. Salads are very healthy as well as filling. A simple trick to the salad dressing issue is to have your dressing "on the side." You can then dip your forkfull of salad into the dressing. You can enjoy the taste without all the unneccesary calories.

Another "trick" is to drink lots of water each day. If you are one of those people who needs to have your water "flavored," there is Crystal Light, as well as other products like this. These are now available in little packets for 8 ounces of water at a time, as well as the pitcher size. This gets in your water intake and you don't feel so deprived.

Exercise is another very important key to dropping unwanted pounds and keeping them away. To some people, this is a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. To others, there is one excuse after another to NOT exercise. Love it or hate it, this MUST be done if you are really determined to win the battle of your bulge. In the event you are really out of shape, start slow and work up to more advanced sessions. Walking is a wonderful way to re-introduce yourself to exercising. Begin with a walk around your neighborhood. Increase your walking distance by a little bit each day until you are up to a decent little workout. Bicycles are also wonderful exercise tools. If you enjoy the outside, hop on a bicycle and learn how to be a child all over again. Whatever you choose, needs to be the right way for YOU.

Finding the right weight loss program for you is key to its success. Whatever path you take,it is wise to always investigate thoroughly before beginning any type of plan geared to helping you lose weight. Once you become motivated to do this for yourself, do your research, make a decision and then take the plunge! Your life will be so much better for it.
