How to Establish Realistic Weight Loss Objectives?

If you are to have any hope of achieving long-lasting weight loss you have to ensure that you establish realistic weight-loss objectives. You can’t simply hope to lose fifty pounds in a couple of weeks, when the chances of this happening are extremely slim. Even if you go on a crash diet you probably won’t lose that amount, unless you happen to be hundreds of pounds overweight. You need to set your sights somewhat lower and aim for consistent weight loss, rather than to lose weight as quickly as possible.

This can be difficult to do when all you want is to see results right away. However, to lose weight rapidly would require you to reduce your calorie intake to a drastically low level which you probably wouldn’t be able to keep to for very long. Consequently, you might lose a significant amount of weight in the first couple of weeks that you’re able to follow the latest fad diet, but as soon as you come off the diet and go back to eating normally there is a good chance you will pile on the pounds again.

To avoid this situation you have to ensure that the goals you set yourself are sensible to begin with, as this will get your weight going in the right direction. You may only lose one or two pounds a week, but at least you won’t have to starve yourself to achieve this amount of weight loss, which is the main thing. To lose a couple of pounds you obviously have to reduce your calorie intake so you burn more calories than you consume, but you can still eat a varied diet and even include some of those foods which are a little bit naughty.

You simply have to make calorie counting a priority so that you learn the calorie content of different foods and work out how much food you should put on your plate and the number of snacks you can eat in a day. Once you have got into the habit of making sensible choices at meal times and incorporating more exercise into your day you should be well on your way to achieving your weight-loss objectives.

It can be difficult to know how much weight to lose, but it’s a good idea to set yourself a goal to aim for, as you can always adjust this if you discover that such a weight would be too low for you or that you could actually lose a few more pounds. As long as you give yourself a realistic number to aim for and a sensible amount of time to achieve it in you will have achieved your objectives in no time.
