Why you can Find yourself Falling Back into Bad old Eating Habits?

It doesn’t take much to fall back into bad old eating habits when you’ve spent years of your life eating large quantities of the wrong kinds of food. If you’ve eaten a poor diet since you were a youngster this is what becomes familiar to you and when you’re feeling upset or anxious eating junk food can be rather comforting. However, comfort eating doesn’t exactly make it easy for you to maintain a healthy weight. You may have believed that you’d got rid of all your food demons, but they can soon creep up on you again.

That is one of the problems with losing weight – just because you’ve shifted a few pounds doesn’t mean you can forget about counting calories or doing exercise. Unfortunately, if you slide into complacency you’re likely to regain any weight you’ve lost because your natural inclination is to eat too much food, particularly food that is calorific and crammed full of sugar, salt and fat.

If you managed to lose weight quickly it can be even more difficult to keep the weight off than if you lost a pound or two a week. This is because you usually have to go on a very low calorie diet to achieve rapid results so that you never really learn how to eat healthily and so when you reach your goal weight you just go back to eating rubbish. It can be hard to stop yourself from overdoing it, especially if you’re been ‘good’ for weeks or months at a time. You feel you deserve a treat and once you overindulge you quickly discover that you have no real control over your eating habits.

When you’ve become conditioned to skipping breakfast, eating late at night, snacking on junk food throughout the day and piling too much food on to your plate it can be difficult to change. Although you have to alter these habits if you want to achieve weight loss and keep the pounds off it is sometimes easier to throw your usual routine out of the window and follow the latest fad diet instead. When you’re told what to eat you don’t have to think for yourself, which makes sticking to a diet easy at first.

However, you can’t live your life this way forever and so you have to find a way to control your own calorie intake without relying on some kind of fad diet ‘bible’ to get you through. This is the only way you will be able to control what you eat in the future so that you can avoid weight gain.
