How to Stop yourself becoming Overweight again?

Many people keep battling the ups and downs of weight loss. Each time we lose weight, it seems inevitable that we’ll gain it back. This doesn’t need to be the case anymore. Though it seems hopeless with each weight loss attempt, you can gain control of your weight, and keep it off for good. Here are some of the ways you’ll be able to stop yourself from becoming overweight again.

- It’s about control.

We can’t do what it takes to lose weight, but then let things unravel. Something always seems to happen to us when we reach our goal, and we lose focus. Some people aren’t satisfied when the results stop, because it’s just not enough, and they put all the weight they lost back on. A lot of people are battling body image problems, so they’ll never be satisfied with their weight loss. Some have “bigger issues” going on, and permanent weight loss can’t be attainable if we’re not dealing with them, and we’re allowing ourselves to feel discouraged and/or disappointed. We need to find ways of being in control of our direction towards lifelong weight loss. There are ways to feel good about our accomplishments, and build confidence within ourselves. There are things we can learn on the way towards weight loss, that we need to be perceptive of, so it carries on for good. We need to be in control of our actions, and know that we can be prepared to deal with any challenges we may face. We need to be the leaders of our “life roadmap,” if we want to never be overweight again.

- Keep challenging yourself.

Changes in our overall life matter when it comes to lifelong weight loss. I can’t stress the importance of us continuing to grow and challenge ourselves. When we further improve, our weight stays off, and it becomes less of an issue. We then end up wanting to take on many new challenges in our lives. I know for me, I love hiking and mountain climbing. I feel that those two challenges have changed my life. I’ve gotten other people and clients involved in them too, and they’ve come to feel the same thing. When we have things we love to do in life and things we can improve on, we feel wonderful, and a sense of freedom about ourselves. We can become more fit, try for a promotion at work or climb a higher mountain, and life begins to feel a new “completeness,” because we’re not obsessed with our weight anymore. Think about weight loss, as a “life gain,” where we expand “ourselves,” and this naturally curbs our weight.

- Expect new issues to arise.

Hopefully, on your road to weight loss, you’ve been able to pick up many different weight loss tools. The only way for us to continue being in control of our weight, is to be prepared to deal with any situation or emotion that threatens our success. Things are going to happen that are out of our control, but that doesn’t mean we need to let it destroy us. Deal with any new challenge head on by thinking it through, planning it out on paper, gathering many resources, and take action. The only way things can slip out of our control, is if we neglect them.

- Prepare for “the moment.”

One of the things most people don’t prepare for, is when they reach their goal, or get pretty close to it. It can also be, that we set a goal that is beyond what we’ll be able to lose in the first place. We set out with huge expectations, and sometimes we go to far in setting them. How many times have you gotten within 5 or 10 pounds of your goal, only to gain all of your weight back, because you’ve fell victim to pressures and disappointments. If you were instead happy with your achievements, you wouldn’t let five pounds let everything spiral out of control. You need to accept what you can accomplish at the moment, and not lose control because things aren’t as perfect as you imagined it would be. I’ve done this plenty of times, so I know full well the emotions involved with not losing a few more pounds. I eventually learned to accept me for me, and I now have a healthy, fit body. Learn to be more content with your achievements, because we won’t be able to achieve the perfection we set in our mind and eyes. When we allow ourselves to accept what we’ve worked hard for and we’ve stuck with it, we’ll figure out where to go next, and we won’t allow ourselves to slip back and gain weight again.

- Stay “clean.”

You’ve come a long way in your weight loss achievements, but now what? A lot of times we forget what it took to get there. The key to long-term success to begin with, is making sure you’re on a plan that practices good long-term habits. It should offer us ways to deal with all the aspects of weight loss. If you’re on a plan that offers support emotionally, nutritionally and with a fitness plan, you’ll have a much better chance of success, and continuing with it beyond your goal. It’s important that we find a plan that allows us to be happy, or else we won’t be able to stick with it for long. Part of “staying clean,” deals with every aspect of a successful plan, including the things that go on around us and influences. Every step of the way, including our weight loss maintenance, should prepare us for dealing with issues in our environments. How we live, and those in our lives can interfere, distract, undermine, add stress to our lives, and tempt us in various ways. It’s our responsibility to ourselves to not have any “of that!” Many issues will become part of the challenge to keep the weight off, but they won’t derail us if we keep aware of living a clean environment. When you’re thinking of making bad choices, work through it. When someone is trying to undermine your success, you don’t need to except that form of punishment.

If you want to put an end to becoming overweight again, you need to change your perception of your body, your way of thinking and looking at things, your expectations, and you’ll need to be your own leader. You must take control of any situation that comes your way, and stop being so hard on yourself. Stop letting things like what you see in the mirror or the scale put the weight back on. We must learn some tools about weight loss if we’re going to be successful for the long-term. It’s important to understand that it’s “us” that works at keeping the weight off, and sometimes it takes even harder work to do it. By making these changes, you’ll be able to put a stop to becoming overweight again.
