How can i Change my Habits so that i Eat less?

How can I train myself to eat less? Whether we like it or not losing weight means changing our lifestyle, and this is not an easy thing to achieve. Our lifestyle is built into who we are, and changing lifetime habits is one of the hardest things to do. But there are a few things you can do to at least get you on the right track.

How can I train myself to eat less?

  • First, change the way you look at food. Without a doubt food is one of the great pleasures in life, but if we use it as a comforter we are going to end up putting on more weight than we need. Instead of reaching for cakes as a treat to cheer yourself up, listen to music or watch something good on the telly. Any form of distraction is better than eating if you are overweight.

  • Second, make a practical point of not finishing everything that is on your plate. No matter how small the portion is to start with, and especially if it is a large portion, always leave a bit behind.

  • Third, by slowing down the pace at which you eat, perhaps by chewing longer, you can fool your body into thinking you are eating more than you are.

  • Fourth, read all the articles you can on how unhealthy certain foods are. This will contribute to a major psychological change in the way you approach your food. Adopting healthier eating habits is another way of losing weight.

  • Fifth, take a long walk each day. If you are not used to doing a lot of exercise, now is the time to start. If you find it difficult to get the motivation for walks, get a dog or a friend to come with you. Music can help to build up your motivation too.

  • Finally, learn to embrace your hunger. This is one of the big secrets to eating less. If we continually respond to hunger pangs whenever we get them, we can end up overeating. By letting those hunger pangs hang on a bit longer each time before we eat, we can learn self-discipline and control. If you remind yourself that by being hungry you are losing weight, soon you will learn to treat your hunger as your friend.

The simple lifestyle changes described above will help you fight off the need to eat as a priority in your life. By finding new sources of pleasure and motivation, you reduce your dependance on food as a prop and by educating yourself in the dangers of overeating and of eating the wrong foods you can reorientate your entire approach to food. Over time and with perseverence, these changes will become second nature.
