EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK: 

Employment for dietitians and nutritionists should grow about average for all occupations, from 80,000 jobs in 2000 to 88,000 jobs in 2020 a 13 percent increase. This growth responds to expanding needs for such health services in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, prisons, community health programs, and health clubs also as increased interest in preventing disease by improved health habits and therefore the need for improved dietary education.


NATURE OF WORK: 

Dietitians and nutritionists plan nutrition programs and supervise the preparation and serving of meals. They promote healthy eating habits by evaluating diets and suggesting courses of action for improving diet and nutrition.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Dietitians and nutritionists work 35-40 hours every week during a sort of work settings clinics, food service systems in hospitals and schools, administrative offices, and kitchens. Nearly one in five dietitians work part time. Many spend most of their time on their feet instead of sitting behind desks.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS: 

Dietitians and nutritionists need a baccalaureate in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or food service systems management. They take such courses as foods, nutrition, institutional management, chemistry, biology, microbiology, physiology, business, math, statistics, computing , psychology, sociology, and economics.

Earnings: 

Dietitians and nutritionists earn in the range of $60 ,000 to $70,000 a year, depending on their level of work experience and where they work. Those in education, research, and consulting earn the most.
