EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK: 

Occupational therapy is one among the fastest growing occupations that also offers excellent compensation. The demand for such services is essentially driven by an increasing number of middle-aged and elderly individuals requiring therapeutic services. In 2020 occupational therapists occupied 75,000 jobs. This number should increase to 92,000 by 2025. 


NATURE OF WORK: 

Occupational therapists help individuals who are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabled lead more independent, productive, and satisfying lives. They assist clients with all kinds of activities, from employing a computer to taking care of daily needs like dressing, cooking, and eating. Occupational therapists often work with individuals during a particular age bracket or those with a selected sort of disabihty.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Occupational therapists working in hospitals and other health care and community settings usually put in a 35-40hour work week. About one-third of occupational therapists work part-time. The work can be very tiring since therapists are on their feet much of the time and they are often lifting and moving clients and equipment. 

OT: EDUCATION, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS: 

The minimal requirement for entry into this field may be a baccalaureate in physical therapy . All states regulate this occupation, requiring licences and certification. Individuals must graduate from an accredited program and pass a national certification examination so as to receive a licence to practice. Occupational therapists need patience and powerful interpersonal skills in working with clients.

OT EARNINGS: 

The medium annual income for full time salaried occupational therapists in 2020 was $86,000. The middle 50 percent earned between $61,000 and $72,000. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $58,000 a year; the top 10 percent earned more than $105,000 a year.
