EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK: 

Expect employment growth for financial managers to be as fast as average for all occupations in the decade ahead. The increasing variety and complexity of financial services, increased interstate and international banking, and changing laws regarding taxes and other financial matters will promote a greater demand for the services of financial managers. The number of jobs should increase from 925,000 jobs in 2020 to 1,200,000 jobs in 2030. Competition for these attractive jobs should be keen since the number of applicants will exceed the number of openings.


NATURE OF WORK: 

Financial managers prepare the financial reports necessary for the firm to conduct its operations and to satisfy tax and regulatory requirements. Financial managers, who could also be the treasurer, controller, credit manager, cash manager or vice chairman of finance, also oversee the flow of money and financial instruments and develop information to assess this and future financial status of the firm. Besides supervising financial services, they'll advise individuals and businesses on financial planning.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Financial managers add comfortable offices, often on the brink of top managers and to departments which develop financial data managers need. Although overtime may sometimes be required, financial managers typically work a 40 hour week.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS: 

A baccalaureate in accounting or finance, or in business administration with a stress on accounting or finance is predicted for many financial managers. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is increasingly valued by employers.

EARNINGS: 

In 2020 the median annual salary of financial managers was $94,300. The top ten percent earned over $144,000 and some experienced financial managers earned substantially higher salaries. Chief financial officers averaged $175,000; treasurers $163,000; controllers $98,000; senior analysts $103,000; cash managers $91,000; and analysts $111,000.
