Dentist Starting Salary in Every State (2021)

Dentist: Starting Pay (2021), Working Conditions, Training, Employment, Career

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK:

After nearly a decade and a half declining job opportunities for dentists thanks to the glut of dental graduates within the 2010s job prospects for dentists have improved considerably in recent years. However, despite increased demand for dental services within the decade ahead, employment prospects for dentists will grow slower than average. Dentists will deal with increased demand for services by working longer hours and hiring more dental hygienists and dental assistants. Dental jobs are expected to grow by 5% during the next decade, from 185,000 jobs in 2015 to 193,000 jobs in 2025. Job prospects should continue to improve, because of the sharp decHne in dental school graduates since the early 2010's and the increased demand for a wide range of dental services amongst the elderly.

Dentists perform a number of dental jobs, from drilling and filling cavities to diagnosing and treating problems of the teeth and tissues of the mouth. Most dentists are general practitioners while others practice in one among eight specialty areas: orthodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, dental public health, and oral pathology.
